Per federal law, colleges and universities could no longer issue new Federal Perkins Loans after September 2017, with final disbursements allowed through June 30, 2018. As part of this federally mandated wind-down, Georgia Southern University followed U.S. Department of Education guidelines and fully liquidated its Perkins Loan portfolio.
All eligible Perkins Loan balances were transferred to the U.S. Department of Education and accepted by their loan servicer, ECSI. This means the Department of Education is now the official loan holder for all former Georgia Southern Perkins Loans.
